Fares, explained straight
JUTC — Kingston, Portmore, Spanish Town & country routes
JUTC has no single fare — it depends on the route. Pay with a SmartFare card and you pay less than cash on most routes. Cards and top-ups: Half Way Tree Transport Centre, Downtown hub, Greater Portmore office and Spanish Town layby.

The $50 core fare came from temporary government cuts in 2024, announced for up to 24 months — JUTC may adjust it, so check jutc.gov.jm before relying on it. Exact times live in JUTC's own schedule PDFs on that site — this page doesn't invent departure times.
Route taxis, coasters & Knutsford
- Route taxis (white plate, red stripe route band) Fares on each card are worked out from the Transport Authority's 2026 formula: a J$131.76 base plus J$8.64 per km, after the 16% increase that took full effect on 1 July 2026. Check the fare posted at the stand and never pay above the prescribed fare. Children, students in uniform, disabled passengers and seniors pay half on route taxis. Overcharging complaints: Transport Authority 1-888-991-5687.
- Coasters & minibuses (country buses) No fixed timetable — they leave when full, mostly early morning to mid/late afternoon, from the transport centre or bus park. Get there early and ask the loader where your town's bus loads.
- Knutsford Express Scheduled inter-parish coaches — book and pay at knutsfordexpress.com; the fare shows in the booking search for your date (online is cheaper than walk-up). Dated examples found in research, Oct 2026: Kingston → Ocho Rios from $2,773 online, Kingston → Montego Bay (from MBJ Airport listing) $4,136 online, Kingston → Negril $4,794 online, Kingston → Mandeville $3,008 online. Treat those as a guide, not a promise — the booking price is the real one.
- Montego Bay Metro Municipal buses from Montego Bay to Cambridge, Falmouth, Lucea, Savanna-la-Mar and more. Like JUTC it was left out of the PPV fare increases — check the fare at the Montego Bay Transport Centre.
Knutsford Express — 19 locations
Scheduled coaches with booked seats and luggage space. Terminals: New Kingston, Washington Boulevard and Harbour View (Kingston) · Portmore · Angels, Spanish Town · May Pen · Mandeville · Gutters and Luana (St Elizabeth) · Savanna-la-Mar · Negril · Lucea · Montego Bay Pier 1 and Sangster Airport · Falmouth · Drax Hall and Ocho Rios · Port Maria · Port Antonio.
